Huge 7.2 Earthquake strikes at Iran-Iraq border
[stuff] An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 has struck Iraq about 200km northeast of the capital Baghdad, the US Geological Survey says.
It initially said the quake was of a magnitude 7.2, before revising it to 7.3. Centered 103 kms southeast of the city of As-Sulaymaniyah, initial measurements put the quake at a depth of 33km.
It was felt across the Middle East and strongly in Baghdad, reports on social media suggested.
According to rt:
Witnesses reported on social media that they felt the shocks as far as Baghdad and Mosul. Some have spoken of having felt the tremor in Kuwait.
An Iraqi meteorology official told Reuters that the strong earthquake which hit parts of Iraq on Sunday, including the capital Baghdad, was measuring 6.5 magnitude.
